Summer Maintenance Tips

Regardless of the season, your vehicle is always going to need some time maintenance. Summer maintenance is just as important as winter maintenance. If you need some help with your summer maintenance schedule or tips on what you should have done on your vehicle for summer the staff at Herrin-Gear Toyota have been working with and on vehicles for several years, and they are vast of knowledge and more than happy to help you, they will explain all the things you should have done on your vehicle in preparation for summer just stop by or give them a call whenever you need advice or help.

Summer is hot, so logically you want to make sure your vehicle’s air conditioner is working properly before the temperatures hit the 90s, and you’re sweltering at the red light on your way to work.

Air Conditioner
The best way to check your air conditioner is to turn it on, give it a few minutes and see if it blows cool air out at you. If it, don’t you need to take the car to the mechanic. Now, you’re probably thinking if it, does you’re all set. Nope, it still needs to go to the shop.

Take your car in and have your air conditioner checked for leaks even a tiny leak needs to be sealed because a tiny leak can become a big leak which will result in no air conditioning. Your air conditioning may also need to be recharged. It’s best to have that done at the beginning of the summer than in the middle of the summer when you may have to wait a week or two to get your vehicle in to be serviced.

Windshield Wipers
Your car’s wiper blades need to be checked for any damage. If you notice streaking across your windshield or the wiper's missing sections, then you will need to replace your windshield wipers. During the winter and spring seasons, your wipers can be damaged by snow, sleet, ice, sand, salt, and any little rocks you pick up from the road. Unless you use your wipers frequently you may not notice they are not working as well as they should.

Tires
Your tires should be checked every season and summer is no exception. You need to make sure your tires have the proper amount of pressure in them and if you have any slow pin-hole leaks you may be able to get by with having the mechanic patch it but by the fall or winter season, it will need to be replaced. If you take a lot of road trips during the summer have safe reliable tires is essential.

Air Filter
During the winter and spring, your air filter can become clogged with debris. When you take your vehicle for a once over to make sure it is in good condition for the summer have the mechanic check the air filter if it isn’t too bad, they may be able to clean it and if not, it will need to be replaced. It’s not that expensive and will save you a lot of headaches.

Fluids
Your car's fluids are something else that needs to be checked to make sure they are full and clean. If it’s time for an oil change have the mechanic check your other fluids — brake fluid and power steering fluid. If they need to be topped off or changed just get it out of the way, so you can enjoy the summer.

Clean the Inside of Your Car
This is a good time to clean the inside of your car too, whether you do it yourself (I would recommend) removing any trash and things you don’t need rolling around in the back seat like your snow brush etc. if you don’t want to clean the car yourself you can have it detailed and when you get it back it will be nice and clean and fresh smelling.
Car maintenance can be a lot of work regardless of the season. It seems like something always needs to be checked or topped off, repaired, replaced, etc. That is absolutely true owning a vehicle requires a lot of attention especially if you want it to last you a while and have it looking nice. So, don’t put off your summer maintenance just make an appointment and go get it done and enjoy your summer.
